Find the music in your websites with CodeOrgan

This falls into the category of useless, but fun and oddly compelling tech.

CodeOrgan translates the text in a web page to music. Just enter the URL of a page you're interested in to hear the sounds the CodeOrgan algorithm creates.

You get access to an embed code you can use to embed the audio in a web page or blog.

Here's what my story, "The Violence of Thought" sounds like. Click "Play this Page" to listen.

Now, here's "With the Land."

There's a very different sound with "The Ripple Effect."

Your web page doesn't need a lot of text. Here's what my "Just Doodling" post sounds like.

I'm stopping now: It's quite addictive!

How does CodeOrgan Work?

It uses content in the "body" of a web page and removes characters not found in the musical scale (A to G). It then uses an algorithm to identify the most commonly used "note." The synthesizer effect selected (there are 10 different ones) depends on the total number of characters on a page. The drum loop selected is based on the ratio of the number of characters versus the number of characters that are musical notes (A to G letters).(There are more details in the "About" section of the website. Surprisingly, this recipe for music creates some interesting and beautiful sounds.
